Repointing

Tiled roofs have ridge capping. These are the upside-down Vee shaped elements at the top and sloping side edges of your tiled roof. These elements are directly exposed to the sun, wind and rain that can damage them over time. With age and movement on the roof, the bedding and pointing would start to crack – and the ridge capping will then start to dislodge itself and sometimes slide off the roof. This is when the roof has to be “repointed” – to maintain the ridge security.

Flexible pointing is an acrylic-based, premixed compound that is applied about 5mm thick over the bedding. This is the waterproof membrane for ridge caps, so if your old roof has a leak and the leak is caused by water entry through the ridge capping, then flexible pointing will do wonders to stop leaks. Our team will thoroughly inspect all ridge caps on your roof to ensure that everything is properly fixed.

We apply a sealer/primer coat to the entire roof. This seals the roof, and because it “etches” into the surface of the tile, acts as a “gripper” coat, giving maximum adhesion. Then we apply 2 or more acrylic membrane coats in the colour of your choice. The acrylic membrane coats are very heavy-bodied (thick in consistency) and form a protective membrane for your roof. Coming in your choice of 28 colours, this will greatly improve the appearance and value to the home. We can also match any other colours/brands.
